PICT Robotics

About PICT Robotics

PICT Robotics has been participating in ABU ROBOCON for the past 12 years. We stood 4th in India in 2014 and 11th in India in 2017.

Students from all classes and departments are welcome here. PICT Robotics is a place where students can indulge into their curiosity and the passion for robotics and dare to go beyond the boundaries of their academics to explore real-life applications of their knowledge, learn new technologies and be exposed to national level competitions. The students also get to interact with over 90 colleges from all over the country, learn about designs, ideas and methods.

Technologies that we use:

  1. Pneumatic systems for actuation.
  2. Automated systems for robots.
  3. Brushless DC motors.
  4. High power motor drivers and reliable sensors for autonomous operations.
  5. Servo motors for precise movements.
  6. ATMEGA2560 micro-controller
  7. Micro-controllers like Arduino Uno, Arduino Mega, etc.
  8. Compass module for navigation
  9. Electronic Duct Fan(EDFs) for thrust and indirect energy transfer
  10. Pixy for object detection based on colour
  11. PID-based control systems
  12. Kinect for Digital Image Processing, Depth sensing, Object tracking, Path detection and prediction of moving objects.
  13. Multiple Servo-based mechanisms for gripping and moving static objects.

ROBOCON is an annual event whichrequires preparation, work and testing to be carried out for atleast 10 months a year. The team holds its introductory workshop in the month of August and interview process for all the interested first year, second year and third year students in the month of September.

In 2014, the theme was 'A salute to parenthood'. We were challenged to make robots which performed tasks of playing see-saw, swing and jungle gym. One of the robots, which was also called as parent robot, had to be manually controlled while the other one, called as a child robot, had to work autonomously.

In 2015, the theme was 'Robotminton'. The theme demanded us to build robots that couldplaya doubles game of badminton on real-sized court. The robots could be either manually controlled or autonomously working.

In 2016, the theme was "Clean Energy Recharging the World". The theme is to move a robot(eco-bot) through indirect energy transfer using another robot(Hybrid bot) through a given path, pick up a component from the eco-bot at the end of the path, climb the pole using the hybrid bot and place the picked-up component at the top of the pole completing a windmill.

In 2017, the theme was "Asobi: The Landing Disc". The theme resolves around the word "asobi" (play), which is also a fundamental philosophy behind PICT Robotics. In "asobi", playful, unique and original show of skills is often more important than winning or losing, as everyone - friend or foe alike - can applaud and enjoy them. So, in the "asobi" spirit: we encourage playful, unique and original robot designs and strategies!
